NSFS shortfalls
Article Abstract:
The US Navy's plan to revitalize naval surface fire support (NSFS) was partially in response to congressional and Marine Corps concerns over the retirement of the Iowa-class battleships. The Chief of Naval Operations has approved an NSFS plan to upgrade 5-inch guns to develop a precision guided munition for these modified weapons with an initial operational capability.

Toward a common Navy planning process
Article Abstract:
The common naval planning process (CNPP) should adapt the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP) structure with respect to composite warfare, offering a process that is unified, coherent, and common to both sea Services in order to better plan in the joint and coalition environment of the twenty-first century.
