Operational demands stretch UK forward air control capacity and Bowman access
Article Abstract:
The military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan might necessitate the UK Ministry of Defence to clean individual brigades of their organic forward air controller (FAC) capacity to create a common pool of warfare assets. The PRC-117 radio in FACs, more suitable for vehicle-born deployment, is hampered by less access to the Harris Bowman manpack radio used in such urban warfare, and has to be 'Bowmanised' to reduce the number of transreceivers needed to be carried or transported.
