A Marine describes the experience of being promoted to corporal and the three-hour session with his squad leader who described in detail his new responsibilities and duties. This 'passing the word' session was the most important experience of his career.

The New York City Fire Dept. encounters daily situations that are similar to those encountered by the Marines in wartime. The Fire Dept. also maintains a rigorous training school that would also be beneficial for selected Marine officers.
