Harsh lessons from Task Force Smith
Article Abstract:
Task Force Smith, composed of members of the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry of the US Army under the command of Lt. Col. Charles B. Smith, has emerged as an object lesson in being unprepared in engaging enemy forces. The task force, organized on Jun 30, 1950, was the first US units ordered to engage the North Korea People's Army during the Korean War. The ensuing battle, which led to large losses in men and materiel, taught the US Army to never again underestimate an unknown enemy in future conflicts.

Battlefield dominance through smart technology
Article Abstract:
Victory in future conflicts through the use of technology requires the ability to revolutionize the design of military electronic devices. This will not be achieved through innovations applied to existing battlefield hardware. Rather, winning future wars will entail combining battlefield knowhow with entirely new concepts that will permit the deployment of lighter, more mobile and more lethal forces.
