Revamping Ramstein: Base become strategic lift hub
Article Abstract:
Ramstein Air Base in southwestern Germany, a base that was never considered for closure during the U.S. global basing review is discussed. Runaways are being built, extended and reinforced to accommodate heavy-lift aircraft, and new control facilities are being built to handle the increase in military air traffic anticipated when Rhein-Main Air Base, outside Frankfurt, closes by the end of the year 2005.
