Russian SSBN launches civil satellite
Article Abstract:
Russia secures an important advancement in its commercial-space program after a satellite, which will monitor the movements of animals, was launched on Jul. 7, 1998, by the country's nuclear-powered Project 667BDRM Delta IV ballistic missile submarine. The satellite launching, which was conducted with the use of an adapted ballistic missile, comes after a scientific payload was launched into space in June 1995 by a 667BDR Delta III SSBN with the use of an RSM-50 missile.
