Russia's strategic bomber fleet achieves new heights
Article Abstract:
The fortunes of Russia's long-range strategic bomber fleet have been bolstered considerably by a deal between Russia and Ukraine to have the latter transfer eight Tu-160 'Blackjack' and three Tu-95MS 'Bear-H' bombers to Russia. The government is also continuing the development of its aircraft modernization programs, has acquired 575 new KH-55 air-to- surface missiles for its bombers and is developing new bomber weapons. Thus, the future prospects for the Russian bomber fleet are considerably bright. The fleet is expected to have a dual-role function in the future.

Russia's new air force enters a tight manoevre
Article Abstract:
The Russian Air Force has been radically reorganized, with the former Voyenno-Vozdushniye-Sily air force and the Protivovozdushnaya Oborona air defense troops having merged into one command as part of government's military reform program. As a result, the potential of the new Air Force may increase in the long run by 20%-25% in air-to-air capabilities and by 10% in air-to-ground capabilities if its aircraft are modernized and the activities of its fighter forces are consolidated.
