Submarines today: Flotilla commanders comment
Article Abstract:
Several trends have been enumerated by submarine flotilla commanders with regard to conventional submarine developments. First is the use of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP), which gives conventional submarines the increased endurance during submersions. A second emerging trend is integration and automation within a submarine coupled with a reduction in the size of the crew. Third, combat systems with integrated sensor functions will be deployed and will have a high level of precision.

Ship profile: La Fayette
Article Abstract:
Warship La Fayette Commander Alain Hinden is proud of the ship's modern features, particularly its futuristic shape and its ability to manage low- level crisis situations overseas. Rather than a particular warfare domain, its endurance and survivability have been enhanced. Its best capacities are its anti-ship role and its Electronic Support Measures. Other superior features are helicopter management and modern radio and radar interceptors that are the latest versions in the French Navy.
