Swedish LEO 2 programme achieves maturity
Article Abstract:
Hagglunds Vehicle AB has formally launched the first Swedish-manufactured tank. The company has system coordination participation in the production of the LEOPARD 2S tank for the Swedish Army under the designation Strv-122. The support for the Swedish LEO 2 program comes from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was entered into by the Defense Ministers of Germany and Sweden on June 6, 1994. When it is deployed in the Swedish Army, the Strv-122 is aimed at proceeding with the modernization process which began with the purchase of 160 second-hand LEOPARD 2s (Strv-121s) from German Army surplus, and to eventually replace the Strv-104 CENTURION and the Strv-103C S Tank.
