The future evolution of radar systems is driven by the major transformation of markets, needs and missions and technologies. The basic factors driving the evolution of radar systems are presented in order to outline the major challenges that European industry will face in the near future.

Advanced airborne radars scan the air space in front of the aircraft to detect air and ground targets so that they can be identified and targeted. A description of the active electronically scanned antenna (AESA_ variant of CAPTOR, the most up-to-date fire control radar is presented.
