Tensions flare as IDF pull-out approaches
Article Abstract:
A number of serious border incidents occurred in Feb 2000 within the Security Zone in Lebanon that is controlled by Israel. These incidents have once again created tensions regarding security even as the July 2000 deadline approaches for Israel Prime Minister Ehud Barak's promise to bring troops back from south Lebanon. All three incidents involved the militant guerilla organization called Hizbullah and involved attacks against both the South Lebanon Army and the Israeli Defence Force. Barak confronts a dilemma as calls for revenge have been issued that are placing heavy pressure on the Israeli forces to retaliate or to allow the Lebanese army to fight back.
