Terma assesses laser-based DIRCM in the pursuit of improved Apache survivability
Article Abstract:
Denmark-based Terma AS along with the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) in 2006 investigated the viability of upgrading its AMASE (Apache Modular Aircraft Survivability Equipment) system by adding the laser-based AN/AAQ-24 (V) Directional InfraRed Counter Measures (DIRCM) capabilities. The replacement of the central module of the AMASE Stub Wing Pod with a new module having a DIRCM laser head is being considered as an almost circular protective DIRCM tracking and jamming coverage can be achieved by doing this on both the sides of the helicopter.
