The Surge
Article Abstract:
An intense four-month operation called the 'Surge' witnessed the largest troop movement since World War II, under which about a quarter million US soldiers and marines flowed through Kuwait. The Surge engineered unit movements in and out of theater simultaneously, replacing and pulling out units in a cascading manner, while still conducting major combat and security operations in Iraq.

Article Abstract:
An early analysis of the Iraq War, 2003, indicates that the military overestimated the reaction to the invasion by the military of Iraq, and underestimated the long-term effect of the invasion by Iraqis. The initial reaction by the Iraqis was that of cooperation.

An embedded journalist describes his experience riding in a Humvee during the initial stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom, when US forces invaded Iraq in Mar 2003. The position enabled the journalist to see much of the action first-hand.
