Article Abstract:

The issues of national security due to the geographical location and the vast ocean areas around Chile necessitate it to be self-reliant and to make continued efforts to maintain modern sea services in the Navy and Coast Guard. Modernization programs to existing vessels includes hull, mechanical and engineering maintenance with modern combat system upgrades, along with procurement and indigenous production of vessels such as DANUBIO-IV offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).

Modern piracy: Growing threat to shipping, counter threat technology and tactics

Article Abstract:

The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) has established the Piracy Reporting Centre (PRC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to monitor the piracy threat to the global sea lines of communications. The IMB has differentiated piracy into three criminal levels, called Low-Level Armed Robbery (LLAR), Medium-Level Armed Assault and Robbery (MLAAR) and Major Criminal Hijack (MCHJ).

The Norwegian Coast Guard: Model for coastal protection in the littorals

Article Abstract:

The Norwegian Coast Guard carries out surveillance and control of the inner leads, in the territorial waters and it is used as a model for other Coast Guards. The academic as well as the practical international cooperation are important for the Norwegian Coast Guards, as international solutions are required to counter the organized crime and global terrorism.
