The spec ops stretch: Expansion plans leave many in Army Special Forces uneasy
Article Abstract:
The 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review announced a likely expansion of Army special operations forces, which is spreading unease throughout the Special Forces community. Active and retired Special Forces officers are of the view that any attempt to expand Army special operations without a corresponding increase in the size of the regular Army is bound to fail, pushing the Special Forces away from its unconventional warfare and foreign internal defense missions.

Direct action and man-hunting, known informally as 'door-kicking', are considered as the preserve of senior leaders in the US Special Operations Command. However, the Special Forces are misused as man-hunters though they are capable of various other missions, which include unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense and civil affairs.
