US Navy signals intentions for provision of DD(X) propulsion
Article Abstract:
The US Navy Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) signaled its intentions to place a sole-source contract with Alstom Power Conversion to fulfill the system integrator role for the Integrated Power System (IPS) of the DD(X) destroyer in a presolicitation notice issued. Formerly this responsibility was nominally vested in Northrop Grumman, appointed as the DD(X) prime contractor in 2002, which is expected in future to focus on bidding for DD(X) ship construction against its rival General Dynamics.
