US finally looks beyond the B-2 for long-range strike capability
Article Abstract:
The Pentagons Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) published in February 2006 states that the US Air Force (USAF) has set a goal of increasing its long-range strike capabilities by 50 percent and the penetrating component of long-range strike by a factor of five by 2025. Currently, the penetrating element comprises 16 combat-coded B-2 stealth bomber, and the USAF has around 150 operational bomber but with the retirement of some B-52s this suggests that the USAF expects to acquire around 70 new bomber or more.

Forces overcome the obstacles of new-generation cruise missiles
Article Abstract:
Australia would select a new cruise missile, called the follow-on standoff weapon (FOSOW), for its air force under the Air 5418 programme by the end of 2005. Improved global access to accurate targeting and navigation systems has enabled the use of cruise missiles to a much wider potential market and Australia is one of a number of countries that is looking at the potential at large, non-penetrating aircraft as cruise missile platforms.
