Uncertain future
Article Abstract:
Russia's conduct in the war against the breakaway Chechnyan republic will continue to strain its relations with the West. Pres Vladimir Putin's policies regarding Chechnya in the coming months will reveal how the country will be able to work with its neighbors and its people in rebuilding the Russian economy. While the West has rightly condemned Russian atrocities in the conduct of the war, it must not forget the fact that the country has managed to emerge into a democracy from a totalitarian state.

From Korea to Kosovo
Article Abstract:
Many members of the military consider the high command's reluctance to deploy soldiers on the battlefield in Kosovo as an alarming portent of future wars that will be fought and won solely through air power. However, a very thorough analysis of US battlefield performance in Kosovo suggests that this campaign represents nothing more than another move in an overall effort by the US to accommodate a basic shift in the relationship between the dynamics of firepower and manuever in warfare.
