Who will be the first to fight?
Article Abstract:
The Marine Corps with its Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs) remains the best-positioned force to handle the global war on terror due to the presence of integrated teams that train and deploy together. However, the most interesting and frequent small unit operations have been taken up by the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCom) due to some mistakes made by the Marine Corps such as tasking the MEU(SOC) reconnaissance units with unrealistic missions, the union-like restriction that only aviators could direct airstrikes and the failure to incorporate lessons learnt from experiments like HUNTER WARRIOR.

Article Abstract:
The Small Wars Manual that was introduced in 1935 was a compilation of the results of a survey on Marine officers conducted by the then Assistant Commandant of Marine Corps Schools in order to compile the experience gained by them in the Nicaraguan campaign, and pass it on to others. The Manual's fifteen chapters explored operational topics such as organization, training, logistics, infantry patrols, convoy escorts, aviation, disarmament of population, and armed native organization.
