$441-million 'boondoggle' leaves Alberta on hook

Canadian taxpayers may be required to pay for a toxic waste cleanup. The environmental program, which has already cost $441 million through a contract with Calgary, Alberta-based Bovar Inc., has focused on the cleanup of the former Swan Hills plant in Alberta.

Japanese rebuff bid to rescind beef ban

Canadian beef exports to Japan are expected to be banned following a minor outbreak of mad cow disease. The ban, which was announced by Japan?s Minister of Agriculture, will be imposed despite the intervention of Canada?s Minister of Agriculture.
