Australian broadcasting companies have until 2001 to provide the same digital television coverage as the analog coverage they provide in 1999. The digital format allows a higher quality reception and greater commercial opportunities than conventional analog broadcasting. Potential for the growth of Internet companies and on-line services will increase, because televisions will be used to access the Internet.
