A dry spell for bars: No smoking, no hockey: Restaurant group study finds major drop in sales in Canada, especially in Ontario

Bill Ducharme, general manager at the Aurora, Ontario, bar and restaurant believes that the National Hockey League (NHL) lockout is a challenge to hurt watering holes that are hit by smoking bans and a drop in tourism. According to the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association, in most regions of the country, bars were dealing with declining sales long before the postponement of the NHL season.
