Lakhdar Brahimi, after spending his 10 days in Iraq and having a discussion with Governing Council brass in Baghdad had stated that for Iraq's future the United Nations in consultation with Iraqis and coalition authorities would choose a caretaker government. The US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair had praised his efforts.

Article Abstract:
Fear of rising Shiite power made the President George Bush decide that he would not topple Saddam from power and occupy Iraq. The Shiites should be grateful to the U.S. and if they are not, then the Iraqi occupation would be disastrous for the Americans.
