A star is owed: some dot-coms fall behind on bills

Dot-coms are falling behind on bills they owe celebrity endorsers. Inernet service provider Freeinternet.com has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy through its parent, Freel Networks. The Internet service provider owes Shaquille O'Neal, throug his firm Management Plus, $500,000. The bankruptcy is a case study in the ripple effects a struggling dot-com has on ad agencies, media outlets, suppliers and even stars. Experts are warning that more celebrities would be joining O'Neal in he ranks of unpaid creditors if they failed to collect upgront and as more dot-coms go bust.

Study: older shoppers buy more online
Article Abstract:
Electronic commerce sales and spending increases with age. An eBranding study conducted by Andersen Consulting and Online Insight shows that the idea that marketing success over the Web is based on attracting young consumers is a myth. Data taken from 2,000 consumers across 17 industries reveal that oler consumers make more total online purchases. Consumers aged 45 and over account for 33% of online spending while those in the 35 to 44 bracket account for 29%. Consumers in the 25 to 34 age range account for 24% while ages 18 to 24 account for 14% of sales.

Net advertisers, FTC agree on privacy policy
Article Abstract:
A plan presented by Internet advertisers concerning the self-regulation of information they collect on consumers has received the support of the FTC. The plan was presented by the Network Advertising Initiative, a group of Internet firms which comprise 90% of online advertising industry. Under the plan, Web advertisers are required to inform consumers on Internet profiling methods, consumers will be given more control over their personal data and will be given "reasonable access" to their advertiser profiles.
