A swell party

Several expatriates living in Sri Lanka rallied around with acts of extraordinary generosity in the aftermath of the South Asian tsunami. The efforts of some of these voluntary aid workers are described that includes rescuing survivors, arranging funds to rehabilitate them, trauma counseling, and even offering their own homes as temporary shelters.

Turn of the tide
Article Abstract:
A year after the devastating Tsunami smashed the Sri Lankan coast and ripped off everything have left people in lamentation and the hope that the aid funds will assist them to rehabilitate seems to be a far fetched idea. The hopes are lost as the rumors of aid funds being siphoned off and the will to recover has finished.

The situation in post-tsunami Marwela, a fishing hamlet in the south of Sri Lanka is described. The efforts to help finance and organize replacement boats are discussed, but bureaucracy, connivance and internecine warfare beset the plan.
