ATA takes long view to success with business fliers

American Trans Air (ATA) is embarking on a corporate transformation that is aimed at making it the largest airline at the newest airport in Chicago, IL, by 2003. ATA plans to have the youngest fleets of aircraft in the nation, with each plane having an onboard live television. It also plans to operate from a renovated Chicago Midway airport where curbside check in and self-service kiosks will speed fliers on their way to frequent flights. ATA has just gained the 10th place in market share among US passenger airlines, surpassing Alaska Airlines.

JetBlue earns its wings
Article Abstract:
JetBlue, the best-financed new airline since deregulation, is apparently a success a year after it was launched in 2000. The airline is profitable and there is even speculation about how soon it will make an initial public offering. The company started out with $130 million when it took to the air on Feb 11, 2000. By the year's 4th qtr, it had flown 1.14 million passengers and posted its first profitable quarter.

Some e-ticket fliers can print boarding pass on PC
Article Abstract:
Some airlines are allowing fliers to print their boarding pass from a home of office PC so they can go straight to the gate upon arrival at the airport. Alaska Airlines offers Web check-in for fliers who have not upgraded and are checking in at least an hour before departure. Northwest Airlines allows domestic passengers using electronic tickets to print a boardng pass from a PC anywhere.
