Aber sells Snap Lake stake

Aber Diamond Corp. is selling its 32% share of the Snap Lake diamond prospect to De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. of South Africa for $173 million. The money will be used to finance the development of a bigger diamond project. The acquisition will enable De Beers to take control of the Northwest Territories property it bought when it acquired Vancouver-based Winspear Diamonds Inc. for $203 million.

Aber closer to okay on diamond mine

Toronto, Ont.-based Aber Resources Ltd. and United Kingdom's Rio Tinto PLC have received approval from the Northwest Territories' government to operate a new diamond mine. The $1.3 billion mine, which is located near Yellowknife, had received opposition from Native Americans living in the region.
