United, pilots reach tentative deal
Article Abstract:
United Airlines announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with its pilots' union, an event that may end delayed and cancelled flights that started since the middle of Apr 2000. However, the agreement does not guarantee the immediate return of normal operations at United since the contract must be approved by the union's executive council and approved by the pilots themselves, a process that may take until the middle of Oct 2000. The agreement came after 40 hours of consecutive bargaining led by United Pres Rono Dutta and union chairman FC Dubinsky.

United Airlines names new president
Article Abstract:
United Airlines, an employee-owned airline, has recently appointed James Goodwin to replace its president and chief operating officer John Edwardson, who resigned unexpectedly amidst union protest. Goodwin has held the post of senior vice president for United's North American operations since 1995. The Air Line Pilots Association Chairman Madison Walton, meanwhile, expressed his high regard for Goodwin. He cited that the union will work with Goodwin to establish the corporate culture needed by an employee-contolled company.
