Warned by the music industry, Web site files suit
Article Abstract:
MP3Board.com Inc. has filed suit against the Recording Industry Association of America, asking Judge Ronald M. Whyte to declare that MP3 shouldn't be held liable for infringement of copyright if it offered results of an automated search that could possibly include pirated songs that are copyrighted. The association sent a cease-and-desist letter to MP3 on May 25, and has claimed that the Web site aggressively steers people to copyrighted music. Experts say that the judge's decision could affect other major search engines such as Yahoo and Excite@home, given that it concerns issues that have confounded copyright lawyers so far.
