Air Raid Sends Iraqis Message, But What Is It?
Article Abstract:
US commanders in Iraq have launched attacks against insurgents who are killing American soldiers, but the apparent ineffectiveness of the campaigns is making Iraqis wonder what the US hopes to accomplish. One example was an AC-130 gunship strafing of a textile factory suspected of being used to launch mortars against the US. The strafing did little damage, but US commanders insist that the US response sent a strong message to the insurgents that the Americans will not tolerate terrorist activities. Iraqis appear to have less faith in the American ability to restore security.
