American's parent spins off Sabre

AMR Corp has annouced its plan for a $6.2-billion spinoff of its shares 83% interest in airline and travel reservation companmy Sabre Holdings. Under the deal, the American Airline parent will distribute its 107 million shares of Sabre common stock to AMR shareholders, who will get 0.7 shares of Sabre stock for each AMR share held. Sabre will also pay a one- time $675-million cash dividend, or $5.21 per share, to its shareholders including AMR.

FAA may fine Boeing $392,000 for failing to promptly report defect

Boeing Co may be ordered to pay a $392,000 fine for failing to immediately report a misaligned engine fuel shutoff valve installed on some 200 of its 757-200 jets manufactured from Apr 1992 to May 1995, according to the Federal Aviation Aviation (FAA). The agency already fined Boeing for $130,000 in 1997 for the production-line flaw. The most recent fine is for the company's failure to report the defect 24 hours after its discovery.
