Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer, is unstoppable in its marketing strategy that aims to make the company the dominant player in the worldwide retail industry. The discount chain is on its way to surpass $135 billion in sales in 1998. Its 2,400 discount stores, 450 wholesale Sam's Clubs and 600 stores outside the USA serve 90 million consumers in seven days. Wal-Mart hopes to put up 15 Sam's Clubs, 40 discount stores and 150 supercenters across the US in 1999 and another 80 retail outlets in countries where it already operates.

Suit says Wal-Mart was unfair to women

Wal-Mart Stores Inc is facing a lawsuit filed on Jun 19, 2001 by six women for discriminating against female workers at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores. Filed in US District Court in San Francisco, CA, the lawsuit claims bias in pay, promotion and training, which the Bentonville, AR- based retailer vigorously denies. The lawsuit seeks a court order directing Wal-Mart to discontinue the alleged practices and demands compensation for lost wages for hundreds of thousands of women affected.

Wal-Mart closes Web site for remodeling
Article Abstract:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc is temporarily closing Walmart.com for remodeling to serve its customers better, according to Walmart.com CEO Jeanne Jackson. The Web site had 1.6 million unique visitors in Aug 2000, compared with 1.5 million in July and 1.3 million in June. Also, the retailer on Oct 2, 2000 announced that it will build 365 stores, supercenters, warehouse clubs and separate grocery stores starting in February, increasing the number of its stores to 4,465 around the world.
