At NYNEX, dial N for nightmare
Article Abstract:
NYNEX Corp is under investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the New York State Public Service Commission (NYSPSC) and several federal grand juries for possible improprieties with two of its telephone company subsidiaries. NYNEX is accused of overcharging New England Telephone and Telegraph Co (NET&T) and New York Telephone (NYT) for supplies and inflating contracts to vendors who attended and/or paid for 'lewd parties' for some NYNEX managers. NYT and NET&T are under an FCC order to pay $35 million in refunds to customers and $1.4 million in fines for overcharges that NYNEX is accused of arranging for indirectly. NYNEX is under a Federal grand jury indictment for engaging in the business of selling computer programs, which it is not permitted under the decree that broke up AT&T. These and other charges may hinder NYNEX's application for a rate increase for NYT.

Nynex denies '88 actions raised rates
Article Abstract:
Nynex Corp announces disciplinary action against eight employees involved in improper business activities. Two employees were discharged and six others were given various types of disciplinary action. The actions stem from problems with Nynex's unregulated Material Enterprises Company. The disciplinary actions followed an investigation into parties that were held at Florida resorts for Material Enterprises' employees and some of the companies' suppliers. Nynex insists the actions of Material Enterprises in no way affected rates or proposed rate increases.
