BUSH LIKELY TO GET MONEY HE SOUGHT, LAWMAKERS AGREE
Article Abstract:
The expected political conflict over Pres. Bush's request for an additional $87 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan has begun. As expected, legislators are divided by political party. Republicans support continued efforts in Iraq while Democrats seek equal funding for domestic programs. If Congress grants the president his request, it would raise the projected budget deficit for 2004 to $550 billion. The United States has already committed $166 billion to the Iraqi military campaign.
