CALIFORNIA MOVES TO APPEAL DELAY OF VOTE ON RECALL
Article Abstract:
California gubernatorial recall supporters plan to challenge the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit three-judge panel decision to delay the Oct. 6 gubernatorial election. Sec. of the State Kevin Shelley announced that California will attempt to prevent any further delay, and recall supporters believe their strongest hope rests with the US Supreme Court. Various gubernatorial candidates have indicated that they will continue to campaign throughout the state. If the election is delayed, there could be significant financial consequences for state voting offices, or new candidates could enter the race if the election is postponed until March 2004.
