Bain beats Yellow Pages in SuperPages battle

Bain Capital, the private equity fund won the contested auction of the Canadian phone directories business of Verizon Communications Inc. with a $1.99 billion bid in September 2004. The Boston-based company will become the latest financial player to buy a low growth but cash-generating directories business from a phone company that wants to put its capital into sectors such as wireless.
