Laidlaw makes bid for Greyhound

Laidlaw Inc., an operator of school bus and ambulance based in Burlington, Ontario, has unveiled plans to buy Greyhound Lines Inc., a Dallas, TX-based company, for $650 million. The pending acquisition, which will give Laidlaw 2,500 coaches 12,500 employees and approximately C$900 million in revenue, is part of Laidlaw's plan to become the biggest intercity coach line in North America. Under the terms of the agreement, Greyhound Lines will no longer operate as an independent public company and its headquarters in Dallas will be phased out.

Bombardier executive jet approved

Montreal, Quebec-based Bombardier Inc., an aerospace firm, managed to satisfy the last important requirement in its efforts to deliver its Global Express product worldwide when it secured the endorsement of the US for the executive jet. The Global Express executive jet is a intercontinental Canadair-Regional-Jet-based aircraft that offers features, such as appointments and large capacity and size. Bombardier has so far received orders for 80 units of the C$37.5-million aircraft.
