Barclays forced to retreat from controversial ATM fees
Article Abstract:
Barclays Bank PLC has delayed its plan to charge non-Barclays customers for using its automated teller machines (ATMs). Nationwide Building Society announced that it would sue Barclays if it proceeded in charging clients of other banks GBP1 ($2.40) everytime they used Barclays' ATMs. Critics of Barclays' plan said the bank wanted to increase its revenue at the expense of consumers. Barclays defended its plan, saying that it intended to prioritize its customers and that it would not make money from the fee.
