Bentley gets buyers' hearts racing

Bentley is holding racing events touting the British car not merely as a luxury vehicle but also as a performance machine. The publicity gimmick is also in preparation for Bentley's spinoff from Rolls-Royce by 2001. Despite their size, Bentleys deliver sports-car performance, accelerating to 60 mph in less than six seconds, attaining top speeds of up to 170mph on the Continental T turbocharged coupe. Bentley sell from $215,000 to $360,000, with buyers called 'prospects' flying personally to its factory in Crewe, England, to have a Bentley personally commissioned.

Tiremaker babies consumers

Tiremaker Michelin has used babies in its ads to heighten consumer awareness and increase sales. The firm, which is ranked third in the US in terms of sales, is expecting sales of $4.7 billion for 1999. Michelin has used babies in its ads for 15 years to underscore the firm's commitment to safety. The series of ads the firm ran in Apr 1999 was targeted at women and younger drivers with families.
