Bid for New York Magazine: A Dance of Money and Ego
Article Abstract:
Primedia Inc. has indicated that it wants to sell New York Magazine. The publication has struggled during the last three years and the planned divestment is no surprise. What is more intriguing is the efforts by a variety of billionaires and multi-millionaires to acquire the journal. Mortimer B. Zuckerman, owner of The Daily News and U.S. News & World Report, is heading a group of prominent business people who would be willing to invest $50 million in the acquisition. The future problem for any New York Magazine editor would be that Zuckerman's group represents the very targets the magazine likes to analyze and criticize.
