Black scores huge legal victory: Chicago judge tosses out $1.25-billion alleging media baron, colleagues engaged in racketeering

Chicago judge has dismissed all counts in a Hollinger International suit against Lord Black, his wife and some close advisors, stating that the case did not fit the definition of racketeering. The suit is basically alleging securities fraud and its proper jurisdiction is a state court and it was clarified that it was not ruling on the merits of the allegations that Lord Black and others lined their pockets at Hollinger's expense.

Conrad Black, chairman, CEO and a director of Hollinger Inc. plans to resign in October 2004, which would help pave the way for his bid to privatize the Toronto company. The shareholder are seeking to have three of Hollinger's five independent directors ejected after they failed to alert the court about a transfer of more than $1 million to a private company owned by Conrad Black and his executives.
