GM pickup's debut in question
Article Abstract:
General Motors' (GM) launching of its 1999 GMT800 pickups would be delayed due to the continuing strikes by the United Auto Workers (UAW). GMT800 pertains to GM's full-size, new-design GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado. Once GM could not launch its 1999 GMT800 pickups in September 1998 or October 1998, the company and its dealers will not be able to sell GM's most popular product. The schedule of the GMT800 launching was threatened shortly on Jul. 15, 1998, by a protest at the Romulus, MI, plant where V-8 engines for the pickups are made. Likewise, parts shortages at the Oshawa, Ontario, plant, where GMT800s are being produced, are threatening the planned launching of GM's latest pickups.
