Workplace bullying, characterized nicely by the behavior of ABC's Jonathan Shier, is difficult to spot for upper management because bullys usually target those beneath them. Bullying, which may take the form of sudden rages, confrontation, ridicule, threats, and sabotage, is prevalent in Australia. In many cases bullying can be classified as harassment, and is antithetical to personal well-being and job productivity.

Nationwide corporate executives are enduring compensation and bonus cuts due to the ailing economy. Geoff Dixon of Qantas is earning a little more than half of what his predecessor earned in 1999-2000, and Fred Hilmer of John Fairfax Holdings lost lost nearly $700,000 in bonuses in the last year. Several reasons for the decreases, including changes in corporate culture, are discussed.
