CAE posts 28.5% rise in profit

Flight-simulator maker CAI Inc has reported a profit of C$16.7 million, or 15 cents a share, on consolidated revenue of C$280.9 million in the 1st qtr FY2000, up by 28.5% from C$13 million, or 12 cents a share, on C$205.8 million from the year-ago period. The strong performance of its flight- simulator business has helped offset the weakness in other divisions such as the industrial cleaning group which lost C$3 million during the period.

Brascan profit soars 53% in 2000 (Brascan Corp.)

Canadian conglomerate Brascan Corp., reports $648 million profit for the year 2000. This is a 53 percent increase, compared to 36 percent for 1999. Toronto-based Brascan Corp., has subsidiaries with holdings in energy and power, real estate, paperboard mills and financial services.

Brascan ekes out 2% profit increase
