CIBC operating profit rises but not record

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has posted operating profits, excluding unusual gains, of C$319 million or 70 cents a share in the 3rd qtr 1999 on revenue of C$2.9 billion, up from C$314 million or 68 cents a share on C$2.44 billion in the year-ago period. Including one-time gains, final profit was C$394 million or 88 cents a share in the 3rd qtr FY99, up from C$245 million or 51 cents a share in the 3rd qtr FY98.

Bell unit to expand satellite service
