Strife could hurt CBC radio plan for third network
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. is planning to launch a third national radio network in late 1999. However, the plans may be delayed because company executives are instead negotiating with union officals to prevent a two-union strike. The unions are asking for wage increases of 10%-15%, plus job-security guarantees and the removal of "multiskilling" contract clauses. The demands would involve an increase in payroll costs, derailing the company's expansion plans.
