John Allan, the president of the British Columbia Lumber Trade Council, backs a decision by a NAFTA panel to criticize high U.S. tariffs on imported lumber. The ruling said that the U.S. Department of Commerce acted illegally in imposing an estimated $10 billion in annual duties on Canadian softwood lumber.

Both sides standing firm in dispute on softwood

The Canadian International Trade Minister?s office reported that it is not planning to revise its proposal to the U.S. on the softwood lumber trade dispute that has divided the two North American countries. Industry analysts said that the dispute has reached an impasse.
