Capital spending projections increase
Article Abstract:
Canadian Businesses and government are projected to increase capital outlay by 6.6% in 1998 to C$125.4 billion as compared to the earlier forecast of a 6.2-percent improvement. The projection for 1998 capital spending on new construction and equipment was lower than the 11.9-percent growth rate in 1997, but is encouraging news in a time when export growth has declined and the US economy is slowing down. Statistics Canada made the prediction based on a survey of 23,000 companies, governments and institutions.
