Australian Prime Minister John Howard has become determined since the launching of his tax policy. He has spent much of his time traveling, attending radio and television interviews, meetings, lunches, dinners, and visits to retirement houses. However, in some of his interviews, he appeared confused and did not know the issues completely. Howard's tax plan has also affected the One Nation Party's popularity.

The Australian Labor Party (ALP) in 1998 conducted its campaign smoothly, with its leaders agreeing on major strategies and issues. However, many respected ALP strategists contend they will pick up 24 seats, three short of victory. The One Nation Party has had the worst showing because it did not get the television coverage it expected.
