Comcast buys $500M stake in Jones cable
Article Abstract:
Comcast, a cable television operator in the US based in Philadelphia, PA, decided to acquire $500 million worth of majority share in Jones Intercable from BCE. Comcast, which already serves around 4.5 million people over a 21-state territory, is expected to become the third-top cable television operator in the country after the deal involving the purchase of 12.8 million common shares is completed. Jones Intercable will also gain relief from its ongoing conflict with BCE which owns 30% of stock in Comcast. Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette representative Dennis Leibowitz stressed that Comcast is the ideal company to help resolve the problems of the two other companies.
